Congratulations to 2026 Verna Rocheleau Service Award honoree, River Trail teacher Dave Schopf!
Established in 2009, the Verna Rocheleau Service Award recognizes a District 56 employee who exemplifies dedication to both the school district and the broader community. Named in honor of former Assistant Superintendent of Business Services Verna Rocheleau, the award celebrates individuals who lead through service, involvement, and a commitment to making a difference.
Dave Schopf truly embodies those values.
Throughout his years in District 56, Dave has made a lasting impact on students, staff, and families through his calm leadership, genuine care for others, and unwavering commitment to service. From serving on district committees and leadership teams to helping establish Camp River Trail alongside Assistant Principal Lori Johnson, Dave has continually worked to enrich opportunities for students and strengthen the District 56 community.
His service extends far beyond the school day. Over the years, Dave has dedicated countless hours to supporting local organizations, youth programs, community events, and leadership initiatives throughout the area. Whether serving in volunteer leadership roles, supporting activities that benefit local families, or helping create positive experiences for young people, Dave has consistently demonstrated a deep commitment to giving back. And for many District 56 families, one of his most memorable roles has been bringing holiday joy to children as Santa at the District 56 PTO Holiday Shop for more than 10 years.
What makes Dave especially deserving of this recognition is not just the many roles he has held, but the humility, kindness, and integrity with which he serves others every day.
Congratulations, Dave, and thank you for your lifelong dedication to education, leadership, and community service!
