Gurnee School District 56 eLearning Day Plan
Communication
Specifics regarding the process for participating in an eLearning Day will be shared via the D56
newsletter and the digital communication tool prior to the advent of the weather season that may
cause a school closing. Building administration and teachers will share the same information
through their newsletters and digital communication tools.
A copy of the plan may also be found in the parent handbook on the district website.
Notification
Communications will be sent by phone call, text message, and email in both English and
Spanish.
The announcement will also be called into local media outlets to run on their school closing
segments.
The information will be posted on social media by the district and school accounts.
Technology
Staff will ensure district-provided iPads go home and return each school day.
K-2 students will have access to eLearning Day information via Seesaw or equivalent LMS
(learning management system).
3-8 students will have access to eLearning Day information via Google Classroom or equivalent
LMS (learning management system).
K-8 students will use Google Meet or an equivalent video conferencing platform for direct
instruction.
Students who do not have access to the Internet are able to check out a mobile wifi unit from
their buildings.
Administrators
Administrators will review, implement and support the eLearning Day plan for their students.
Administrators will review procedures and expectations for participation with staff prior to an
eLearning Day.
Teachers
Teachers will communicate via LMS (learning management system) platform, email and/or
video conferencing.
The eLearning Day plan will meet the 5 hour school day requirement.
Each teacher will be accessible throughout the scheduled school day via LMS (learning
management system), video conferencing, or email.
Support Staff
Non-certified staff members (custodians, lunch supervisors, playground supervisors, bus
drivers, secretaries, clerks, aides, nurses, and technicians) should receive direct instruction
from their immediate supervisor regarding expectations during an eLearning Day.
Students
Students are encouraged to use the District provided iPad for eLearning but if they
do not have their iPad, students are allowed to use any device to participate in the
eLearning Day.
Daily attendance will be taken for K-5 students and attendance for 6-8 students
will be taken every period.
If technology support is needed, the Tech Helpline will be available by calling
847-505-1850. Teachers may also submit a help desk request on behalf of a
student by emailing helpdesk@d56.org.
Each student will have 5 (five) school days to complete assignments.
*Important to Note: Our preschool programs and some SEDOL classrooms utilize a “Blizzard
Bag” on these days. The use of technology is not needed for these students to participate on
these days. They may also complete their work over the course of the five (5) school days
following the eLearning Day.
All school closings in Gurnee School District 56 may not be
eLearning Days. eLearning Days will be used as the administration
sees fit. It is important for all stakeholders to follow the directions
provided in the public notifications.
