Hayes, Megan - 7White Science

Welcome back!!! I am so happy to have students back in the classroom so we can do some real science! I know that for many students, they have not been in a classroom since 5th grade. We are going to start the year focusing on the basics of science. Topics include: Lab safety, measurement, science processing skills and the use of the scientific method.

Upcoming Events

Here you can find scheduled homework assignments, upcoming labs, projects we are working on, tests, and quizzes. I use Google Classroom to deliver material and assignments to the students. There, they can find documents and daily class activities. In case of an absence, students can log into Google Classroom from home in order to stay current on class activities.  See the Google Classroom for all assigned work and due dates.

What Is Science?

Science is a way to gain knowledge using observation skills and experimentation to describe and explain natural phenomena. In other words it is a way to figure out why things happen the way they do, in the world around us. As we journey through the 2020-2021 school year we will be doing just that by conducting scientific investigations, making observations, analyzing data, testing predictions, and drawing conclusions, which will ultimately allow us to make important contributions to the scientific process.

Additional needed materials

There is no textbook for this class, all necessary information will be provided by me in the form of notes, readings, diagrams, videos and lab supplies. All of these things will be found on the iPad, in Google Classroom.

Tips for success in 7th grade science
Create a section in Good Notes. FOR SCIENCE ONLY!
Pay attention and take good notes.
Study for tests and quizzes.
If you do not understand something, ask me for help.
Help each other.
Read and follow all directions.
Always put forth your best effort.
Participate-This is especially important during remote learning.
Join my online office hours for help when needed.

Grading
Standard-Based Grading
Labs are worth 30% of your grade
Participation is key especially during remote learning. This will go into your COSL grade.

Often time students are too concerned with getting the right answers on the first try however, when doing science being wrong is the best thing to be because when you are wrong you have the opportunity to learn new information.
