Mr. Jager

Hello! My name is Mr. Jager and I am now in my 13th year of teaching, all here at Viking Middle School.  Teaching physical education is a great opportunity to show my passion for fitness, sports, kids, and teaching the benefits of being active to your son or daughter.  Please feel free to call or email me at any time if you have any questions.  Thanks!

  • I am very excited, nervous, eager, and worried as this year gets started.   This is my 13th year teaching, but obviously never started a year quite like this.  As we get into this school year online, I strongly encourage everyone to stay active.  In PE class we are going to encourage just that.  Our lessons and actitivies are all geared towards students getting up and moving.  The first couple of days of school we went over with the studetns the benefits of exercise and living a healthy lifestyle.  The main focus was to help the students realize that being active helps your body and your brain.  During this time, activity seems to be getting forgotten about by many which is going to effect many different areas of life.  We are planning on encouraging students to be active in many different ways and providing two days of exercise a week!

Our main focus during this remote school time is going to be finding ways to get our students active.  With having to spend many hours infront of a screen, during PE we are going to get kids up and moving.  They will be doing different workout videos, active games, fitness tessts, and even have some free time to do active things they enjoy most!  Our department, over the past two years, has really put an emphasis on exercise and staying active in our PE classes.  This is more important than ever right now!  To encourage movement and activity all PE students will be filling out a log of their week.  In this log, they are strongly encouraged to get 60 minutes of activity each day.  This can be time in class plus active time in the afternoon after school or during school breaks, or even before school!  The 20 minutes during PE a few times a week is not enough.  The first couple days of remote learning the PE department went over with the students the effectiveness of activity.  We talked about how being activie helps students physical health, emotional health, and helps their brain function more efficiently.  We hope this gave the students extra motivation to want to stay active.

In conclusion, we need everyones help.  We students to be active and willing to participate in PE class.  We are also asking parents to help find ways to have your son/daughter get activity time.  Family walks or bike rides, going to a forest preserve for a hike, shooting baskets, playing soccer in the backyard, etc.  Help the health of our students which will help them succeed in all classes.  Thank you!
