Returning Students

Spring 2011                               

Dear Parents:

Enclosed are the documents needed for the registration of your child in Gurnee School District 56.  Please review and correct all pre-printed information as needed.  Corrections should be made directly on the enclosed registration form.

Again this year, District 56 is encouraging all returning students to mail the completed registration forms in the enclosed self-addressed envelope.  The documents that need to be returned in the enclosed envelope are:

  •     Student Information Sheet and Payment of Fees.
  •     Proof of Residency Check Sheet along with three forms of proof. (Homeowners Only)
  •     Student Health/Medical History Form.

The collection of fee payments is a critical aspect of the District’s planning and preparation for the 2011-2012 school year, and as such, the District will offer a $20.00 discount per student to those families who return their student information sheet, student health/medical form and pay their fees prior to May 13, 2011.  The registration deadline for returning students will be June 8, 2011.  Thereafter, a late registration fee of $25.00 will be assessed.   By mailing your registration materials to the District Office immediately, you will save money, save time, and enjoy the benefits of a returning student.

Those families who reside in the District with leases, or who need to complete an affidavit, will need to personally provide to the District Office staff the original documentation of their proof of residency on or after August 3, 2011.  If you register by mail prior to June 9, 2011, you will be provided an opportunity to complete this task in an expedient manner.  Please refer to the Proof of Residency Check Sheet for Homeowners to establish the types of proof you will need to bring with you.  Those requiring affidavits will need to obtain the form on the District’s website or at one of the school offices.  The District Office has reserved three dates in which to bring in proof of residency.  These dates are August 3 and 8, from 9:00 - 2:00 p.m. and August 15 from 1:00 - 6:00 p.m.

Complying with the request after August 17, 2011, will result in long lines and the possibility of the student not starting school on time. If all registration steps are completed in a timely manner, teacher assignments and transportation information will be shared with parents on or after August 17, 2011.  In order to allow principals an opportunity to prepare class lists; the transportation department to assign bus routes; and teachers sufficient time to prepare for their students; all registration requirements must be completed on or before August 17, 2011.  Students not registered for school by 4:00 p.m. on August 17, 2011, will not be permitted to start school on time (August 23, 2011) and will begin school on or after August 25, 2011.
