NEW STUDENTS

Spring 2011

Dear Parents:

You have notified Gurnee School District 56 that you are a new resident to our District and that you have children who will be attending our schools for the 2011-2012 school year.  If you have not already done so, you are encouraged to contact our District Office at (847) 336-0800 to confirm that your new address is within District boundaries.  We look forward to assisting you with this process.

At this time, we would like to take an opportunity to welcome you to the District.  For all students new to the District, the following documents must be presented at the time of registration:  an official birth certificate, current immunization records, and recent school physical form.  If a student is transferring from another public school in Illinois, an Illinois Student Transfer form must be obtained from the previous school and submitted along with the other registration documents.

IMPORTANT:  Please refer to the Proof of Residency Check sheet included in this packet.  You will be required to present all of these items to us prior to registering your children for school.

New student registration will occur at the District Office on:

August 15th from 1:00 – 6:00 p.m.

August 16th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

August 17th from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.

All kindergarten students must be screened and will be registered at the Kindergarten Screening on June 9-10 from 8:00 – 3:00 prior to placement.  Parents of kindergarten students should contact Spaulding School at (847) 662-3701 for an appointment time.    

Every attempt should be made to pay school fees at the time of registration.  Parents, however, are encouraged to register students for school as early as possible and make arrangements to pay fees at a later time to ensure registration is completed in a timely manner. If all registration steps are completed in a timely manner, teacher assignments and transportation information will be posted on the front door of your child’s school building on Wednesday, August 17, 2011.  Students not registered for school by 4:00 p.m. on August 17th will not be permitted to start school on time (August 23, 2011) and will begin school on or after August 25, 2011.
