Welcome to the Gurnee School District 56 Website.

The Board of Education, as an elected entity, wants to be as responsive as possible to the community it serves.  The foundation of that relationship is a set of tools that provides information to the community and an effective two-way communication system between the community and the District.  This website is designed to be a medium for parents and community patrons to access to find the most recent information about the school district.

As part of the District’s five-year strategic plan, the Board of Education sought community support to permanently close the Gurnee Grade School structure and to construct a new school on Wadsworth Road between Delany and Green Bay Roads.  The community overwhelmingly approved the resolution on November 2nd, 2010, and the the process to build a new school has begun.  The picture below is the architect's rendering of the new building:

As we promised during the campaign, the levy for the District's bond and interest payments was reduced by $0.084 and resulted in a savings of $700,000 to taxpayers.  Recently, Senator Durbin announced that the District's grant request to receive $2.4 million to demolish the Gurnee Grade School structure and return it to a green space was approved.  The School Board is committed to reducing the District's debt even further with the money from that grant.  This building project is on schedule, and as we advertised throughout the campaign, it continues to be a "win-win" for everyone.  The community is encouraged to access the Building Project Information link on this page for the most current information about the project. Sincerely,
John Hutton, Ph.D.
