Welcome to the Gurnee District 56 website! I hope this will be a great resource for you as you seek information about the District.
As the Board of Education and I focus on a new five-year strategic plan, I would like to reflect on our progress with our first strategic plan. We passed a $28.5 million referendum and built Prairie Trail School, a new District Office building, and the Transportation Center that we share jointly with Warren High School District 121. The iPad is now the primary tool used to deliver curriculum through our 1:1 initiative that Apple honored with the coveted Distinguished Program Award in November of 2013 and again in November of 2015. Community and national partnerships have been established and has placed Gurnee School District 56 in the national spotlight through its creative innovations in learning. The Superintendent was recently invited to a White House Summit, along with 100 other prominent superintendents, to discuss the District's commitment to digital learning. The District hosted the prestigious Future Ready conference in June of 2015 and was invited into the League of Innovative Schools in October of 2015. This has translated to unprecedented learning growth by District students and has moved the District one step closer to pre-eminence. With all that said, the key to our ascension has been the dedicated staff that works with our children on a daily basis. No one educates children better than we do at Gurnee School District 56.
The Board has unveiled their new strategic plan that will focus on student learning and parental engagement. That plan can be viewed through "Let's Talk," and the community is invited to comment on it through that new communication medium. The Board looks to continue its commitment to student learning and community partnerships through this new plan.
As I close, I would like to restate the Board of Education's thanks to you for your support, and to reaffirm my commitment to you that we will work hard every day to continue to earn that support.
John Hutton, Ph.D.
Superintendent of Schools
